But it wasn't until 2003 that I bought my first JVC DV tape based camcorder and started to film for self gratification. From then on
I spent most of my spare time filming events and interviews and learning the ins and outs of film production. In 2009 I bought my first prosumer camera the JVC GY-HM100.
In the early 90's I put aside photography and film and went to study music at the Mannes College and graduated with a BFA in music performance at The New School in NYC. During my years studying at the conservatory I also got interested in the field of
IT so after graduation I got certified in Microsoft, CompTIA and Cisco Technology.
I don't wanna bore you but if you're interested in knowing who I am and how I ended up in this business here's my story in a nutshell. I've been tinkering with photography since I was 13. My first camera was a used vintage 70's Nikon EL with a 50mm f/1.4 lens which I purchased at a pawn shop. A few years later I rented my first Bolex Super 8 and created a short film with my friends. During the 80's I shot video on old school VHS camcorders.
I enjoy a slower paced, static cinematography style look. I embrace filmmaking technology especially with smaller cameras but more important I'm always trying to improve my visual storytelling skills regardless of which camera I use. I also enjoy sharing with others
what I learn along the way check out my tutorials and reviews. And
for all you Sony A7s users out there don't forget to download my free menu guide.
Everything I've learned about film production came strictly from reading a lot of overwhelming film books, doing workshops, on-line courses, hands on experience and by making lots of stupid mistakes. I also watch and get inspired by what other filmmakers do because no one creates in a vacuum.
When I'm not filming I can be found at home with a JD on the rocks in one hand a TV controller in the other and watching a good'o classic Hollywood film with Mrs. N. I also produce electronic music with Propellerhead Reason come find me on soundcloud. Anyway I hope my website will resonate with you and help you find inspiration in your own journey. Happy Filmmaking!
